RIU Current Vacancy - CHIEF STIPENDIARY STEWARD – GREYHOUND RACING

The Racing Integrity Unit (RIU) manages the application of, and adherence to, the Rules of Racing for Thoroughbred, Greyhound and Harness Racing in New Zealand. 

Due to an impending retirement the RIU will have a vacancy for the role of Chief Stipendiary Steward Greyhound Racing. This role will, along with the other members of the RIU team, contribute to the effective operation of racing and ensure that rules and regulations both on and off course are followed and are fully adhered too, with the result that racing is conducted with integrity and there is enhanced public confidence in our industry. 

As the Chief Steward of Greyhound Racing you will have detailed race day stewarding experience in that code, specifically race day operations and the Rules of Greyhound Racing. 

The role includes but is not limited to 
  • Leading the team of Greyhound Stewards. 
  • Providing advice on Greyhound matters. 
  • Liaising with Greyhound Racing New Zealand and as required with oversees jurisdictions. 
  • Carrying out Stipendiary Steward duties at race meetings and trials, venue and track inspections. 
  • Establishing effective relationships with industry participants, visiting kennels
A roster system is applied and the role requires a flexible approach to working hours due to the requirements of the industry. 

The appointee will have extensive experience and knowledge of the Rules of Greyhound Racing, be familiar with racing industry as a whole, and be able to establish effective relationships with key stakeholders. 

Importantly, the appointee will also be able to demonstrate a high level of personal integrity and be able to apply decisions consistently and objectively. 

Travel around New Zealand to oversee the Greyhound Stewarding operation will be an essential component of the role.
