An independent organisation, the Racing Integrity Unit (RIU) is charged with managing the integrity issues within the three New Zealand racing codes - Harness, Thoroughbred and Greyhound.

The New Zealand Racing Integrity Unit (RIU) commenced operations on 1 February 2011 bringing together the Stipendiary Steward and Racecourse Investigator functions for each NZ racing code and is responsible for investigating and prosecuting breaches of the Rules of Racing. GOODANYA (K Chowdhoory) – Trainer P Harris advised that the gelding had been found to be mildly lame in a front leg along with a laceration to a hock and would now be sent for a spell.

Race 7 NZB PEARL SERIES RATING 65 1400 metres

OUR ROSETTE (K Williams) – Co-trainer M Pitman advised he was happy with the recovery of the mare and would be continuing with her current campaign, however, would be restricting starts to 1200 metre events for the foreseeable future.

MELARITA (T Thornton) – Trainer Mr D Hollinshead reported to Stewards, MELARITA pulled up lame to the off fore tendon. Mr D Hollinshead further advised the mare has now been retired from racing.

SHE’S A GODDESS (D Hirini) – Trainer J Shaw reported to Stewards, SHE’S A GODDESS pulled up with slight swelling to the off fore fetlock. J Shaw further advised the mare was rested for two days and has now resumed with light track work.

NEEDLE AND THREAD (C Grylls) – Co trainer K Shailer advised Stewards, that on return to the stable NEEDLE AND THREAD underwent a veterinary examination which revealed a bone chip to the near front fetlock joint. NEEDLE AND THREAD will undergo surgery on Thursday 25 March and will then be spelled for eight weeks.

Wanna Play WIth Me/It’s All About Faith - 8 April 2021

Trainer Hayden Cullen has contacted RIU Stewards to notify them that routine blood tests taken from a number of runners early this week has indicated that two of his horses engaged this Friday night, Wanna Play With Me (Livamol NZD Trotting Derby) and It’s All About Faith (Diamond Creek Farm NZ Pacing Derby) have mild upper respiratory infections. Treatment for this condition was immediately commenced. In light of this, further blood tests will be taken this morning under the supervision of RIU officials to ascertain the state of the infection and the suitability of the runners to compete. A further update will be provided once the results have been viewed.
